Little Cascadia Punx is ready to grow again & we invite YOU to join the movement! Ready, set.... cut & paste!
Anyone interested in creating a zine? We'd like the project to take shape naturally, but the general theme is alternative living... so a little bit local music/shows/bands, a little bit off-grid living/survival tips, maybe some political anarchy, seasoned with how-tos, self care, self love, art and acceptance of the weird?
We want to keep it lo-fi. Pen and paper, gather content via shitty cellphone photos of analog work. Interested?
Submit content via email to email@example.com!
What We're About:
We are interested in publishing unfiltered truths, positive projections, reclamations, rants, demands, confessions and jubilations.
And even further than that, we are fascinated with the unusual and unconventional aesthetics that surface from the subconscious of an unafraid storyteller. If it’s weird, we want it! If it’s unkempt, send it over. If it’s ‘too racy’ we’re hungry for it.
ABSOLUTELY no fucking racist, homophobic, body/sex/lifestyle shaming or otherwise harmful/demeaning language, content or other bullshit. You can hate cops and yuppie scum, but all other human life is sacred.
Subjects that fit:
DIY how-to's, anarchist DIYs (making the system work for you in legal or not too terribly illegal ways), DIY anything really, self care/self love (self reflection stories, experiences, rants, advice), your views on political topics, calls to action, resistance propaganda, life experiences, LGTBQ community, POC community, feminism, punk rock music, folk punk music, off-grid living, tips & tricks for low budget travel (tour, road trips, hiking, biking, etc) and stories from the road and ultimately anything relating to community building and living a happy, fulfilled life as a weirdo.
Zine Design: Black/white, cut/pasted/collaged together by hand, some work done in photoshop
Written entries: typed or written well enough to read. Include pen name, contact (optional) & city you are writing in. Our word limit is ~300 per page (that looks like 1/2 a page of typing in a regular Word doc). But honestly, just make it legible when fit to our 4x5 zine pages.
Visual entries: we print in b&w. Send us a .jpeg, .png or .pdf of your art. Cell phone pics are juuuuuust fine.
Page entries: If you want to design the layout and content of your page, send us a .jpeg, .png or .pdf of the final design. If you want a spread (2 pages), talk to us first to make sure there is space to accommodate!
What Gets Published:
We may not publish every entry, every issue. If it doesn't fit (physically or thematically), we may save it for the next issue. If we don't publish your work, it doesn't mean we didn't like it, or we don't like you as an author/artist. We will gladly send you feedback letting you know why we didn't include your work, either to get it ready for the next issue or, in some cases, to explain why it doesn't fit our vision.
(A lot of these guidelines were stolen and adapted from the WOC zine "From the Root" https://fromtherootzine.wordpress.com)
